The beautiful ancient art of marbling is enjoying a well-received revival this year.  More popular now than it has ever been before in its 1000-year history, this unique artistic process has continued to evolve and further develop into an infinite variety of patterns and color combinations that have leapt back into the worlds of fashion and home décor.

Indian Inspiration
Today’s international fashion houses have started taking note of the rich Indian culture and craftsmanship. Designers are embracing the vivid jewel-tone colors and sumptuous patterns beloved by maharajas for centuries and appropriately applying them to the home.

White on White

White is definitely having a moment. Without color or pattern to distract, line and shape become the star. Distinct variations in the color white can subliminally articulate detail.

The tone of white can change the perception of a room.  A pure white may feel icy and crisp, while an ivory tone can be comforting and relaxing. 

Sunny Yellow

Sunshine with a twist of lemon, yellow is an uplifting color that promotes communication.  “There’s no doubt about it, yellow is a color that lifts one’s spirits,” says designer Bunny Williams.  Yellow signifies optimism and creates feelings of well-being and encourages positive thoughts.

Shades of Gray

The symbol of security and maturity, gray gives a room a touch of relaxation.  The shade can bestow a sense of glamour or repose and works in a wide variety of interiors.

White, Gray, & Yellow

Not only are yellow, grey, and white trending on their own, they make an even stronger statement when combined.  This timeless color combination will play a staring role in Bachman’s Spring Ideas House. Yellow, grey, and white will be popping up in every category from wall art to wardrobes.

Sepia Artwork
For homeowners looking to create a vintage theme of décor, you want to incorporate sepia art into your room. Sepia prints are traditionally tinged brown and represent landscapes, still life and people. Many are familiar with the tint of the picture as it reflects photos from the 19th and early 20th century.

If you have a room filled with antiques, sepia prints or photos would make a great addition to this type of room. Sepia can even improve the quality of a lackluster photo. Roaring 20's Decor

Emerald Green
Pantone is the world’s leading color authority and this year they have named Emerald Green as the color for 2013. If you want to jump on the emerald green trend this year, first try incorporating smaller accessories such as toss pillows, drinking glasses, or vases into your decor before buying more expensive investment pieces. Lucky for us, most house plants fit the bill and add a pop of emerald green to every room without needing to purchase anything new!

Metalics
Metallics are absolutely everywhere right now from lampshades, to toss pillows, to furniture. Brass is back and golds are hot! But don’t worry, chrome and silver are still going strong as well. This year, don’t be afraid to mix your metals which adds depth and interest to your space. Light fixtures and hardware do not always have to be the same finish and can look fantastic when mixed.

Reclaimed, Recycled, and Repurposed Wood
Repurposed wood isn't a new trend by any means, but we’re going to be seeing a lot more of it this year. Wood walls, bamboo flooring, cork flooring, reclaimed wood paired with metals, and reclaimed-looking synthetic wood will be everywhere this year. Real wood accessories such as chargers, cutting boards, trays, and coasters will also be showcased in stylish homes around the globe.

Noel Au Natural 

White wash and glimmer as well as the knitted look remain very popular for 2012.  Natural elements dusted with glitter are among the hottest trends this holiday season. 

Regal

Trees fit for royalty  adorned with all purple ornaments often pared with peacock inspired décor are making a noble appearance this year.

Jewel Tones

To balance out the au natural, rich color tones which resemble well known gemstones such as emerald, amethyst, ruby, topaz, sapphire, tourmaline and turquoise are making this season sparkle. 

3D Wallpaper

There are two different types of 3D wallpaper available; the actual textured effect and the ‘trompe l’oeil’ effect which merely gives the impression of being three-dimensional. Textured wallpapers are ideal for walls that are not perfectly straight and allow striking designs to create a real focal point for any room in the house.

Animal Prints

Never off the fashion radar for long, animal prints are set to be big in interior design trends in the coming year. Leopard, tiger and zebra prints can add a strikingly contemporary feel to a room, but this very much depends on using them sparingly. Choose one type of print, and keep to accent cushions, curtains or accessories. Be sure to keep the rest of the room understated to avoid a cluttered feel.

Gold

Traditionally used to add opulence to a room, gold is set to be very big in 2013. Accessories in gold add a luxurious feel but, once again, be careful not to overdo it or the effect is lost. Gold leaf highlights architectural features on furniture to replicate the antique French-furniture look and adds a polished gleam to a room.

Faux Bois

This traditional rustic motif is suddenly hip, showing up in glamorous new guises and a range of unlikely colors.

Wallpaper (Especially in the Powder Room)

When the world is even mentioned, dad shrieks and says, “NEVER do wallpaper,” alluding to how much of a pain it was to both put up and take down.  He remembers it so clearly because he finally took it down right when it is coming back into style.  Stripes, silver sheen, vintage, bois, geometrics even 3D wallpaper are making their way back.

Preppy Prints

According to Matchbook Magazine’s creative director Jane Lilly Warren, preppy, geometric prints are more popular than ever in home decor and accessories. “While one could say that lattice, trellis, and fretwork-like prints are making a serious entrance as a fall trend, in reality, this timeless aesthetic has been kicking around for decades,” she says. Warren recommends looking beyond the confines of geometric-print King and Queen, Jonathan Adler and Trina Turk now that many more designers are adopting it for their own upcoming collections.

Art Deco

At its best, art deco represented elegance, glamour, functionality and modernity. Bold, Art Deco-era geometrics feel equally appropriate on throw pillows as they do on beaded flapper dresses.  

Florals

The 50s floral tradition is a popular print and creates a sense of pretty nostalgia on tablecloths and bed linen, from feminine, Victorian florals, to out-and-loud wild blooms. This is extended to animal print too - upholstery has branched out to include leopard and zebra print.
